Biomass gasification for CHP production

Biomass gasification for CHP production
LAT/AUTh in cooperation with the Chemical Engineering Department of AUTh, have developed, designed, manufactured and operated two experimental gasification units. A bench scale atmospheric fluidized bed gasifier of 5kW thermal power output, and a pilot scale atmospheric fluidized bed gasifier of 20kW thermal power output. The two units are currently running on agro-residue biomass, producing low heating value gas (producer gas), which can be further used either for H2 and CO recovery or for power production.

These activities target the development and application of integrated biomass gasification systems incl. internal combustion engines (ICE), micro-turbines, fuel cells etc.

In particular, the research activities focus on the producer gas quality analysis, producer gas treatment efficiency (particles and tars removal), producer gas combustion characteristics and process simulation.
